• Attendance Everyday

Belshaw’s expectation: At School Everyday-On Time!!!  Students are encouraged and expected to have great attendance for their success!

It is the law that your student be at school.

The importance of regular attendance cannot be over-emphasized.  A child should be in school every day that he/she is physically able.  It is extremely difficult to successfully keep up with class work if attendance is irregular.  If a student is repeatedly absent or tardy, the parent will be notified that their child is truant.  All truant students will be referred to the Student Attendance Review Board.  Students are to be lined up on the playground at the 8:00 a.m. bell.  Students arriving to school at after the 8:00 a.m. bell will be marked tardy.  Students and classes who have 100% attendance are recognized on a regular basis.

Tardy students may be asked to serve a detention the day of the unexcused tardy.

Per the California Education Code, three tardies = 1 day’s absence in attendance reporting.

    ABSENCE LINE:  925-779-7495 OPTION 2

Absences and arriving late to school results in a student missing valuable class instruction.  If a child is going to be absent from school, parents are requested to call the school Attendance Line at 779-7495 Ext. 2 prior to the school day or send a note of verification when the child returns.  (The State of California requires verification of all school absences.)  All absences must be reported to the school within twenty-four (24) hours.  (AR5170) If a child does not arrive at school, we want to be sure he/she is safe with you.

Our automated caller, Ed-Connect, will call your home the evening of a student absence to remind you to clear the absence.

An absence due to one or more of the following cases, when verified, is allowable and considered excused: illness, quarantine directed by county or city health officer, medical, dental, or optometric appointments, and attending the funeral service of a member of the pupil's immediate family to the extent of not more than one day if service is conducted in California and not more than three days if the service is conducted outside of California.

Students whose absences are excused shall be allowed to make up any work missed.  Students whose absences are unexcused may not be allowed to make up missed work.  Absences of ten or more school days in one year is considered excessive.

Checking a student out early from school is also considered a period absence.

Only students having school breakfast may arrive as early as 7:30 a.m. All other students may arrive no earlier than 7:45 a.m. as there is no adult supervision for students not eating school breakfast until 7:45 a.m.  Please carpool or arrange child care so children will not be dropped off earlier than 7:45 a.m.  When students arrive, they are to wait in front of the gate, until 7:30 a.m. and all students are to go into the cafeteria, when the morning supervision teachers will greet them and escort them to the yard.  Neither students nor parents are allowed to wait in the hallways areas.  For the purpose of student safety and school liability, and in order to allow teachers to supervise students properly, parents are not allowed on the playground.  We appreciate parents’ assistance in reinforcing these procedures.

After students are dismissed from the cafeteria area, they must proceed by walking directly to the playground.  Students arriving/not in their seats by the 8:00 bell are considered and marked tardy.  Students disrupt the instructional program by arriving late.  A student arriving after 8:00 a.m. must go to the office for a tardy slip.
