Welcome to the Health Class offered at Deer Valley High School.

This is a 5 unit, semester course that is required for graduation from high school.  This class will cover a wide variety of health-related subject material.

• A student’s grading profile can be reviewed at the DVHS Aeries web site.
• I am available for additional help before and after school pursuant to availability

Grading Policy:

Classwork               35%
Participation           10%
Final Exam              20%
Section Tests          35%


Consequences for behavior that is detrimental to classroom order and learning:
1st incident = Warning  2nd = Meeting with student and call to parent.
3rd = Meeting with student and parent. 4th = Referral to Vice Principal, a phone call to parent.
*Extreme misconduct may result in suspension by the teacher EC 48910

Family Life Education:  The Family Life Education program will be presented by Deer Valley High School in accordance with the Antioch Unified School Districts’ approved curriculum.  An announcement letter for parents will be distributed to each student 15 days prior to the beginning of this instruction.  Students will be informed and encouraged to discuss this announcement and class instruction with their parents/guardians.  A parent may choose to “opt-out “ their child from this aspect of the class instruction. If parents have any questions or concerns about this item, they are encouraged to contact me as often as needed.

Standards and Benchmarks:  The aim of Health Education in the Antioch Unified School District is for all students in grades K-12 to acquire information and skills that will enable them to live socially, mentally and physically healthy lives.  The Health Science curriculum is based upon the districts - “Comprehensive Health Standards and Benchmarks Grade K-12”.
