Mr. Michael Sagehorn

Welcome to my class!!!!

This year I teach World History.

A social studies teacher in both Oakland and Antioch since 2001,  I'm currently working on a second Masters degree and a Phd in History.

I attended Humboldt State University majoring in political science with a minor in speech. During college,  I completed the Platoon Leaders Course at Quantico, Virginia, was commisioned and served as an infantry officer. After the service , I worked for a few big and small companies, then became a teacher and a coach.

I enjoy hiking, camping, cycling, kayaking, and fishing. A voracious reader. I read  three newspapers a day and stay current in my subject with magazines and journals- Foreign Affairs, The Atlantic, and The Journal of American History.

My current academic interests are advocating the inclusion of ethnic studies and natural history in the high school curriculum, including rugby as a sanctioned California Interscholastic Federation sport, and improving school nutrition to meet the needs of high school students, particularly athletes.

This will be a challenging year, but if we aim to do our best- read, write, and communcate, we will learn together.
