Mr. Michael Sagehorn

Welcome to my class. This year I will teach four sections of College and Careers and a section of World History.

I've been a social studies teacher in both Oakland and Antioch since 2001. I now teach at Deer Valley High School in Antioch.

My professional interests include increasing more experiential teaching opportunities-outdoor education, vocational training, and improving citizen participation among students. My current advocacy projects include incorporating ethnic studies as an A-G requirement and adding rugby as a recognized CIF sport in California high schools.

I served in the Marines after college as an infantry officer, worked for a few big and small companies, then became a teacher and a coach.

I enjoy hiking, camping, cycling, hunting, and fishing. I'm a print media old guy, reading three newspapers a day, read Foreign Affairs, the New Yorker, and Atlantic cover to cover. My magazines include the Backwoodsman, Backpacker, Outdoor California, and the Organization of American Historians.

I look forward to teaching my students each day.
