Mrs. Ziel

Hello to all my fabulous students!

We are embarking upon an unprecedented journey and while I know this is a time of uncertainty and upheaval, I also know that together we can accomplish and overcome anything! To ensure you complete this school year strong and with every skill you need to succeed either in college/post high school life (seniors), or (juniors) next year as seniors, I'm going to post assignments on Common Lit every Monday which will be due on Friday by 3:00. I will ask you to submit progress or "check ins" on the COVID 19 Project I assigned to this email: mrs.zdlmhs@gmail.com. I will still answer emails sent to either this or my school email address but I created this email specifically to collect your COVID 19 or other assignments all in one dedicated space. I will be using my Common Lit classrooms regularly so if you haven't enrolled, please do so. Email me or text via Remind101 if you need the code.

The COVID 19 Journal assignment that I provided on Remind101 as optional is now an official assignment and will help to develop your reading, writing, research, and analysis skills as you synthesize the many aspects of your daily lives and incorporate information from outside sources. You can use the sources provided on the assignment or others as you choose them. This is an ongoing assignment so you do not have to submit weekly, but I'd like to see progress submitted every other week or so. Remember, you are the eye witness and the historian! What "book" will you write about your experiences during this historic time?

As many of you know, technology is not my strongest skill but I am learning as quickly as I can how to navigate remote teaching. So many tutorials... Some of the aspects of remote teaching and distance learning may change and I may have to adjust how I provide lessons/assignments/information so I ask that you be patient during this time and I will return the favor. We must all be patient and flexible with each other as we become comfortable with our new normal.

I also understand that many of you are working one or more jobs, or are caring for younger siblings or family members who may be ill. In short, you may be stepping into roles you did not have before and I want to assure you that I am planning assignments carefully in respect to these situations. The purpose of these assignments is to help you finish strong, not to overburden anyone, so, if at anytime the work becomes too much, please reach out to me either by email or via Remind101 and we will work on a schedule that works for you. The key here is patience, flexibility, and above all, kindness.

I will hold office hours twice daily to be available to you and answer any questions or concerns you may have but I will also answer question throughout the day. Office hours will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. AND from 3:00-4:00 p.m. I hope these hours will work for most of you but rest assured I will answer questions throughout the day as well so please reach out whenever you need anything.

I miss you all and I hope that together we can adapt to our ever changing lives and finish the school year proud that we were able to overcome every challenge!
