Welcome to the 6th Grade!
Degrees and Certifications:
Dear 6th Grader and Family,
Welcome to the sixth grade and your first of three years at Antioch Middle School. I hope that you are having a wonderful summer. I am excited to be your sixth grade Math and Science teacher, and I look forward to a fun and productive year together. As a 6th grade student at Antioch Middle School, you will have many expectations and responsibilities, and be awarded the opportunity to voyage into various aspect of mathematical and scientific adventures.
In our classroom, I promote a tight-knit community I like to call “Fam Bam”, in which we welcome diversity and encourage collaboration and communication. Our class theme is S.W.A.G (Students With A Goal), as we set quarterly academic goals and establish positive paths for a successful life. I believe in a safe environment that promotes respect, trust and a sense of ownership among students. I also believe that support of the learning team (parent/guardian, the student, and the school staff) will enhance student educational achievement.
To share a few things about myself, I am a California girl born and raised in Oakland. I moved to Antioch in 2010 and have worked for the Antioch Unified School District in several capacities since 2011. Before then, I worked for the Oakland Unified School District for almost 10 years in both primary and secondary levels. I was an active participant in the Champion for Change Campaign through UC Davis Cooperative Extension, promoting health and healthy habits and I spear-headed health fairs and started many school gardens which afforded me the opportunity to be a voice in the California Department of Public Health’s Be Well book. I was a Junior Achievement Instructor at Skyline High School and I taught Adult Health Education classes. I earned a double Associate of Arts degree in 2005 and a double Bachelors of Arts degree in 2009. In 2012 I earned units for my Master in Business Administration degree. I earned my Teaching Credential from Fresno State University and will be a student of the Fresno State University Kremen School of Education and Human Development earning my Master of Arts in Teaching and Education. I coach middle school and high school basketball and I coach middle school volleyball. I truly love coming to work each day. Teaching is my passion, next to basketball (Go Warriors!!!), and I am passionate for the education and success of our youth.
I am eager to meet our future Eagle families! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. I value and I thank you in advance for your support and hard work during this exciting school year. Enjoy the remainder of your summer vacation!
