Mrs. Janeen Zuniga

As Principal of Mno Grant School, my mission and passion is to ensure that every child, by name, feels loved, safe, secure, inspired, challenged, and empowered to learn.  I have had the privilege of serving Mno Grant Elementary School for the past 6 years, and I look forward to continuing its long tradition of excellence.

I too am a long-time Antioch resident and product of Antioch Unified School District:  Go Panthers!  I have taught preschool and elementary grades since 1984.  I have served as a Classroom Teacher, Reading Specialist, Literacy Coach, and Middle School Vice Principal during my career.  As I enter my 35th year as an educator, I continue to find joy as I observe students learning and growing within a school community.  You will likely find me in the classrooms, where I love to read, write, and interact with the students and teachers.  In fact, I am also an instructor for Saint Mary's College in a Teacher Leader role for the Reading Recovery Program.  My greatest joy is helping new readers discover how to unlock the keys to literacy, while supporting all teachers to do the same.

  • Welcome to the 2020-21 School Year!  The school year will begin on September 1st with our fabulous teaching staff providing Distance Learning through virtual, online platforms.    Although this school year will be like none other in history, if we partner together as a school community we will ensure academic and social-emotional success for ALL children.

Check this website and the Mno Grant Facebook page often for updated school information. Currently we have posted beginning of the year information under "Mno Grant News" on this website's homepage.  There you will find information on enrolling new students into Mno Grant Elementary, how to use the Aeries Parent Portal to register your returning 1st to 6th grader (you'll update emergency contact information and receive class assignments through the online parent portal), how to borrow a student laptop for home use, and how to access school meals.  Also, please click on the article in the right hand column to learn more about preparing for Distance Learning at home.

When our County Health Department determines that it is safe for students to return to the school building, our staff will be ready to provide a healthy environment that will allow for optimum learning to take place on the campus and through virtual, online platforms.

Whether you are new to the Mno Grant School Community or a long-standing member, you will find that our school has a warm and inviting atmosphere with a strong focus on including every child and parent as a member of the school community.   Parents are encouraged to volunteer through School Site Council, PTA, ELAC, and with their child's classroom in order to enhance earning opportunities for ALL children.

At Mno Grant Elementary, you will find a STREAM integrated curriculum in each classroom, taught by highly expert and caring teachers.  We strive to integrate Science, Technology, Reading (literacy), Engineering, Arts, and Math throughout the learning day for each child.   Each child will be involved in Project Lead the Way, our Science and Engineering program.  Students as young as Kindergarten become "engineers" who love to "code" on Ipads. These projects will be integrated with math, reading, writing, and the arts.  Our goal is for all grade level standards to be taught through highly engaging projects (Project Based Learning) that will motivate your child to reach his/her full potential.

Mno Grant Elementary has a proud tradition of strong academics and community service that prepare students for future success.  We welcome your support of all of our 21st Century learning programs. One of the most sought after employment skills is for students to work both independently and as a team member.  Our classrooms are designed for students to work as a member of a small team throughout the learning day, and teachers utilize Kagan Cooperative Learning Structures that engage students in collaborative and accountable learning experiences.

I look forward to welcoming you and your child to school this year, whether in person or virtually.  Although "school" will be different for all of us this year, as we work cooperatively for the educational benefit of ALL our children, we will prevail through these difficult times.

    In partnership,

    Janeen Zuniga, Principal
