About Me
I worked for many years as a biologist and neuroscientist before deciding to teach biology. I have deep appreciation for how science helps us make sense of the world and make a difference in people’s lives. With this in mind, I’m dedicated to supporting each and every student to succeed in my class and beyond.
What Students Will Learn
I think of science and biology as more than facts and figures---they are ways to understand nature, medicine, and how to approach and solve real-world problems. I plan on having many labs and projects throughout the year for students to engineer solutions and explore how biology relates to the world around us.

Science Papers
My experience in research labs was spent studying how the brain learns and adapts to sensory experience and is affected by natural rewards and drugs:
- Bocklisch et al. “Cocaine Disinhibits Dopamine Neurons by Potentiation of GABA Transmission in the Ventral Tegmental Area,” Science. 341:1521–1525 (2013).
- David R.C. House et al. “Parallel regulation of feedforward inhibition and excitation during whisker map plasticity,” Neuron. 72: 819-831 (2011).
- Valentin Stein et al. “Postsynaptic density-95 mimics and occludes hippocampal long-term potentiation and enhances long-term depression,” Journal of Neuroscience. 23(13):5503-5506 (2003).
