  • Dear AMS Families,

Distance Learning officially starts Tuesday April 7th. Your teacher has posted assignments on their AMS Website:

If you do not have a computer device please pick one up on Wednesday April 8th at the AMS cafeteria- drive up and go. Our 8th graders should come between 9am-noon and our 6/7th grades should come 1pm-5pm. Please have your students ID number ready. It can be found on your students report card or AERIES portal. Low cost internet can be found at the following link:

Starting tomorrow April 7th and going forward every Tuesday and Thursday 12-1pm the AMS office will be available for drop off and pick up of hard copy assignments. Though it is our goal to get all students online learning we will work with students and parents until that is accomplished. There will be a drop box by the main window for completed work. This work will be scanned to your teacher. Please make sure your childs name is clearly printed first and last on the cover.

If you need to pick up assignments there will be a table with pre printed work sorted by teacher. Please stand behind the cones and space yourselves to observe proper social distancing. A staffer will be available at the window between 12pm-1pm.

I know many families want to obtain personal items from lockers. Unfortunately our campus is closed to the public. As soon as it is safe to do so we will publicize a time to retrieve those items. Please note that spring portraits will be mailed home. In addition, our administrative team is working to plan a way to celebrate our 8th graders. We will let you know the details soon.

We want to support students and families through this difficult time. Our school has a virtual wellness room to promote positive mental health it can be reached at this link:

Our counselor Ms. C can be contacted by phone or text at 916-888-9706. In addition, our bilingual and instructional aides will be reaching out to support our ELD and special education students. Our teachers will be posting a daily office hour for students who would like additional help with assignments. Please refer to the teacher’s website. Some of our teachers are hosting these meetings on WebEx video conferencing. Please remind your student to follow all school rules when on Web calls to include following the school dress code and using school appropriate language.

Our teachers have worked hard to plan engaging distance learning lessons for our students. Should you have questions or concerns please do not hesitate to email me

Mrs. Lopez-Wisely

Dear Eagles,

Welcome back to school! My name is Mrs. Lopez-Wisely and I am returning in my fourth year as the school’s Principal. Our school has so much to celebrate. Last year we raised our test scores, improved our chronic absenteeism, and received numerous grants to support our amazing programs. We were able to secure new pianos, materials for ballet folklorico, full funding for 10 athletic teams, and grant money for our onsite fitness room. Not to mention AMS teacher Ms. Marshall is the AUSD teacher of the year and in the running for Contra Costa County Teacher of the Year. We are so proud!

We have so many exciting programs and classes this school year. We are offering an exploratory wheel of electives to our 6th graders, so they can begin to investigate the high school career pathway options that our district offers. We also have a comprehensive music program, STEM (science engineering, and math), and an array of leadership classes for students. In addition, we have a long list of extracurricular activities to include athletics, art, and creative writing. Additionally, we host a variety of family and community activities such as movie nights, dances, a harvest festival and multiple multicultural events.

As a school we are dedicated to supporting all students in and out of the classroom. This year we will continue with our iReady online instruction tool for students to receive additional support in math and ELA. Last year students showed outstanding growth on the state exam and many students were able to demonstrate near or on grade level proficiency. With the purchase of new computers, our school is close to reaching its goal of having computers in all classrooms on campus. We are also the only middle school with a 6-8th grade AVID/college prep program.

We are also focused on social emotional supports that help students manage stress, anger, and/or anxiety in a healthy way. Community building circles are a regular part of the classroom experience. Students will also have the ability to utilize our peer conflict mediation and our onsite wellness room. We regularly teach and implement the 12 toolbox tools which encourage healthy ways to manage stress (breathing, quiet/safe place, listening, empathy, personal space, using our words, garbage can, taking time, please/thank you, apology/forgiveness, patience, and courage).

Strong core academics are essential.  We are encouraging a school wide reading culture and have collaborated with the public library; all AMS students can use their school ID to access books at the library, which is located right around the corner on 18th street. Many teachers plan to conduct walking field trips to the library to explore all of the resources that are available to our students. Our own library has been purchasing new and highly engaging books for students. Our library conducts several reading contests with exciting rewards for students. Furthermore, our library hosts many book fairs where students are able to purchase books that interest them. Please encourage your child to read daily.

Fostering a nurturing environment that is safe, supportive, and inclusive is central to my leadership. I am looking forward to working with all families. We encourage parent involvement and hope that all parents can join our Eagle Parent group or our ELAC (English Language Advisory Committee). These groups meet monthly and help promote a positive school culture through many of their volunteer activities and help guide school budget and program decision-making.

The school website is an important communication tool. The website houses teacher web pages, the school calendar, important news, and contact information. Students and parents can view grades and attendance through the Aeries portal. Login and passwords for these websites will be distributed at registration. I also hope everyone has a chance to follow us on Facebook: We post pictures and announcements on this page.

I am looking forward to a successful school year. It is my goal to maintain an open door policy. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or simply stop by to say hello, or 925-779-7400 ext. 33098. I am looking forward to our partnership. Go Eagles!

Principal, Antioch Middle School

33098. Espero con interés nuestra asociación. ¡Vamos águilas!
