    Who are we?

Dozier-Libbey Medical High School is a certified pathway school for Antioch Unified School District that opened in August 2008 and serves about 750 students in grades 9 through 12.  We began with a freshmen class and added another grade level each subsequent year.  We had our first graduating class in June 2012.  Our four-year program uniquely prepares students for all areas of health-related careers and has a strong emphasis on math and science.  Students are required to take a minimum of four math and four science courses as well as a minimum of two years of foreign language.

All students who successfully complete the program meet or exceed the University of California A-G requirements.  The health science theme is integrated throughout all curricular areas with a heavy emphasis on integrated project-based units for every grade level.  In addition to the A-G requirements, the students take a medical terminology course their first year, which is articulated with Los Medanos Community College.  Students who pass the course with a B or better receive three college credits.  Students also take a health science course each year with subject matter that is specific to the health-related industries such as medical career exploration, global medicine, ethical and legal practices, and employability skills.

Frequent hands-on instructional activities are a key part of our program and are developed with our industry and post-secondary partners.  Examples of these are job shadowing, guided study tours, service learning opportunities, presentations by guest speakers, cross-curricular research projects, digital portfolios, and internships.  In addition, all students are strongly encouraged to join and participate in Health Occupation Students of America, which is an integral part of our school.  The strong commitment from our business and education partners helps us to provide the link between high school, postsecondary education, and the world of work.
