    SOME INFORMATION FROM AHS COUNSELOR:   During your FRESHMAN year, start taking A-G classes, set up your College/Career Planner and practice good study skills.​

    • ​Familiarize yourself with the graduation requirements and your “a-g” courses to meet UC/CSU admission requirements: college prep English, Algebra I or Geometry, and a foreign language/Art class.
    • Aim for "C-" grades or above in all your classes; focus on homework and develop good study skills.
    • Take elective courses that meet the UC/CSU admissions standards: (AHS ASKED TO MAKE 2 ELECTIVE REQUESTS FOR NEXT YEAR)

      • Visual And Performing Arts 
      • Academy Elective courses
    • Join clubs, play sports and volunteer. This is a good way to develop and expand your interests.
    • Explore different career options.

    PUENTE PROGRAM:  Puente classes function as families, or familias, with students acquiring competency in various genres including autobiography, reflection, research, persuasion, literary analysis, expressive, and community-based writing. Students are taught techniques for collaborative peer review and create portfolios of polished assignments.  Puente’s writing program not only builds language-arts skills, but also teamwork, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills, all of which are key to enabling enrollment at a public or private university.

    “A-G” Courses

    The California State University and University of California requires the following college preparatory pattern of classes for admission:

    A. History and Social Science                                                                                                       
    2 years (1 year of U.S. History and 1 year of Social Science)

    B. English
    4 years required

    C. Math
    3 years (4 years recommended)

    D. Laboratory Science
    2 years with a lab class

    E. Language Other than English
    2 years of the same language

    F. Visual and Performing Arts
    1 year

    G. College Preparatory Electives
    1 year of any college preparatory subject
