5/28/2021 Letter - Update Regarding Reopening Schools

May 28, 2021

Dear Parent/Guardian,

I hope you and your loved ones are well. As you are most likely aware, both Contra Costa County and the city of Antioch are seeing a steady decline in the number of positive COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations related to COVID-19. Additionally, there is a steady increase in the number of individuals eligible to be vaccinated. Given these positive trends, I wanted to reach out to let you know that we are planning for a full re-opening of schools in the fall. This is, of course, barring any unforeseen circumstances.

We are currently planning several robust intervention and enrichment activities for students to ensure that any gaps in learning brought about by the pandemic are addressed and learning accelerated. These programs will take place during the summer, the regular school day, and after school. Your child’s school will identify learning gaps, should they exist, so that your child has an opportunity to participate if needed.

For those families interested in continuing in a distance learning model in the fall, AUSD will be opening a virtual learning academy. Information related to how to enroll in the Academy will be posted on our website beginning June 22nd. You can also contact your child’s school or the District Office if you would like further information.

The extraordinary circumstances we’ve experienced this past year had a profound impact on each of us. I want to take this opportunity to thank you for working with us to provide the safest, most effective learning environment possible despite the challenges brought on by the pandemic. We truly value—and do not take for granted, your support.

As always, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s school should you have any questions, etc.

Sincerely and respectfully,
Stephanie Anello
Superintendent
