Belshaw Family Engagement

Here are some of the different ways you can engage with the Belshaw Community.

School Site Council (SSC)

Schools are required to form SSCs when they receive categorical funding from the state and federal government. California Education Code mandates that schools write a plan to describe how categorical money will be spent. A representative group of educational partners at the school develop this plan and makes decisions on how to spend the money according to the plan. (ED Code 52852)

Parent Teacher Organization (PTO)

A Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) is a formal organization composed of parents, teachers and staff that is intended to facilitate parental participation in a school. It is a local organization of teachers and parents who work together to improve schools and to help students. PTAs are typically affiliated with both their state’s PTA organization and the National PTA. PTOs are nonprofit organizations formed by parents, teachers, and school staff to support their local schools.

English Language Advisory Council (ELAC)

The English Language Advisory Council (ELAC) is an advisory committee that provides advice and recommendations regarding programs and services for English learnersThe ELAC advises the principal and School Site Council. It is not a decision-making body, but it represents the voice of the English learner community. The ELAC is intended to advise school districts and schools on matters that impact English learners, such as educational opportunities and improvement plans.

African American Parent Advisory Council (AAPAC)

The mission of the African American Parent Advisory Council (AAPAC) is to provide a forum to hear the ideas of the Antioch Unified School District's African American parent community and respond to those ideas by educating and informing parents of the district's resources, policies, and programs.  It is our goal to empower the lives of all African American children and families by providing the knowledge and skills necessary to advocate for a high-quality educational experience for our children.  The AAPAC works to develop resources that allow parents to more actively support the academic instruction their children receive and engage with educators and administrators in Antioch Unified School District.  We aim to lift every parent's voice and help less engaged parents find their voice through us.  ***Belshaw has not had it’s own AAPAC group in the past and it is a goal to begin meeting in 2024.
