Principal's Posts

Greetings Lone Tree Elementary Community,

It is with great excitement that I write this letter of introduction as the newly appointed principal of Lone Tree Elementary.  I currently serve the students and families of the Antioch Unified School District in my role of elementary school vice principal at John Muir Elementary.  I look forward to supporting Lone Tree Elementary and the personal and intellectual growth of all its students.

My life journey took me down several winding roads that shaped a passion for supporting students as they grow and develop in the early years.  I grew up in Fremont, CA as the oldest daughter of an auto mechanic and dental assistant.  I was the first in my family to attend and graduate from college.  I began with my AA at Ohlone Junior College, moved on to Cal State Hayward where I received my BA, and finished off with a master’s in education from National University.  I am the mother of 2 amazing daughters, Natalie (22 years old) and Faith (18 years old).  I have spent the last 5 years supporting them in my role of single mom and look forward to celebrating a high school and college graduation this month.

The 2023-24 school year will mark my 25th year in education.  I have had the privilege of teaching students in grades kindergarten through 8th as a general education teacher, special education teacher, and intervention specialist.  This experience sparked a love for intervention and a focus on students wrestling with academic preparedness and social emotional support.  I believe that every child can learn when provided necessary supports. While I enjoyed my time as a classroom teacher, my heart was searching for a place that I could work collaboratively with educators, families, and the greater community to help students achieve their absolute greatest potential.  My first step was in the role of vice principal.  During these four years I was successful in implementing a Multi-Tiered System of Support at John Muir.  This structure ensures that each student is monitored for progress and provided with necessary tools to achieve success in college, career, and life.

My recent work with Lone Tree staff and parents in my role of supporting administrator has given me privileged insights into the strengths and areas needing focus.  As principal, I am committed to exploring new ways to support the needs of all students and to effectively communicate with parents and the community.  I am dedicated to working in partnership with families and remaining present and available.

In closing, please know that my door is always open to you.  I welcome your conversations input throughout the year to come.

Sincerely,

Jonnie Silman
