Qualifying Life Events & Mid‑Year Benefit Changes

Once you enroll in benefits, your elections remain in effect for the entire plan year. You may only make changes during the year if you experience a Qualifying Life Event that permits a mid‑year update.

Common Qualifying Life Events include:

• Marriage, divorce

• Birth, adoption, or placement for adoption of a child

• Death of a spouse or dependent

• Loss or gain of other group health coverage (such as a spouse or parent's employer plan)

• Change in dependent eligibility (for example, a child reaching age 26)

• Change in residence that affects health plan availability

Important Timing Rules

Benefit changes must be requested with the benefits department within 31 days of the qualifying event . Changes must be consistent with the event and will require supporting documentation.

Coverage changes are generally effective the first of the month following the event, except for newborns or adopted children.

If you miss the required deadline, you will need to wait until the next annual Open Enrollment period to make changes. There are no allowable exceptions to the timing rules.
