District CARE Team

Mission Statement

The AUSD District CARE (Children Accessing Resources for Education) Team is dedicated to fostering student success by working within a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) to identify needs early, coordinate targeted interventions, and connect students and families with appropriate school and community resources. Through collaboration, equity-driven practices, and the intentional use of Restorative Practices, we strive to build strong relationships, repair harm, remove barriers to learning, and ensure every student has the opportunity to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Vision Statement

We envision a school community where every student is supported by a seamless, MTSS-aligned network of services that nurtures well-being, encourages resilience, and promotes lifelong learning. Grounded in Restorative Practices, our approach fosters a culture of respect, responsibility, and empathy. Our goal is to create a proactive and responsive system where students and families feel empowered, connected, and valued, ensuring equitable access to the tools and opportunities needed to reach their full potential.

AUSD District CARE Team Referral Process

Purpose

The District CARE Team (DCT) reviews and monitors students at risk of expulsion when school-based Tier 3 supports and other means of correction have been unsuccessful.

Referral Criteria

A school administrator may refer a student to the DCT via 25/26 AUSD District CARE Team Referral when:

  • Tier 3 supports at the site have been unsuccessful.

  • Other means of correction have not resolved concerns, and additional options must be explored to prevent missed educational minutes.

Process & Timeline

  1. Meeting Schedule

    • The District CARE Team meets bi-weekly to review cases referred by school sites.

  2. School Referral Responsibilities

    • Schools should submit a referral only after determining that all tiered interventions at the site have been unsuccessful.

    • Applications must show:

      • Documented meeting notes

      • Intervention data for more than 6 weeks

      • Follow-up notes explaining why interventions were not successful

  3. Site Administrator Presentation

    • The site administrator will present to the DCT virtually:

      • Interventions attempted with the student and family

      • Outcomes of those interventions

      • Recommendations for next steps

  4. District CARE Team Review

    • The DCT and the school will collaboratively discuss intervention options and supports for the student/family.

    • The DCT will review the effectiveness of interventions after 4–6 weeks to determine next steps and provide further guidance.
