Dear AUSD Families,

It’s that time of year when our 3rd-8th and 11th-grade students will participate in the statewide testing program: California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP).

Why is this test important?

CAASPP assessments benefit students, schools, and the broader community in several ways:

• Student Learning & Growth: Results help teachers and families understand student progress in English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science, and identify areas for growth and support.

• School Ranking: Good test scores lead to higher rankings for your neighborhood schools, which means higher home values.

• School Accountability & Funding: Strong participation and performance contribute to school accountability measures and can positively impact access to federal and state funding that supports instructional programs and student services.

• College & Career Readiness (Secondary Students): For older students, CAASPP results are one of several indicators used to support college and career readiness, including placement considerations for postsecondary education.

• English Learner Progress: CAASPP results are one of the measures used to support English learner progress and reclassification decisions.

• Preparation for Future Assessments: Participating in statewide testing helps students build confidence and experience with assessments they may encounter in college, career training, or the workplace.

Attendance Matters

Strong attendance is especially important during the testing window. Families are encouraged to:

• Prioritize daily attendance during testing

• Schedule appointments outside of school hours when possible

• Ensure students arrive to school on time

How Families Can Help

• Talking with your child about the assessment in a calm, positive way

• Encouraging them to do their best and take their time

• Take practice tests by visiting: Practice and Training Tests

• Ensuring adequate sleep and a nutritious breakfast on testing days

• Supporting daily reading and healthy routines, including physical activity and limited screen time

Students will not have access to cell phones or other electronic devices during testing.

iReady Support (Elementary & Middle School)

In addition to classroom instruction, iReady supports learning in elementary and middle school. To maximize its benefits, students are encouraged to:

• Complete 45 minutes per week in both ELA and Math

• Pass at least 70% of lessons

• Actively engage in personalized instruction

Families can support this work by encouraging consistent use and monitoring progress.

Stay Connected

Families are encouraged to:

• Monitor attendance and grades in Aeries

• Maintain communication with teachers and school staff

• Reach out to school counselors for academic or enrichment support

• Monitor testing dates for your school site

Thank you for your continued partnership and support. Together, we can ensure every AUSD student is prepared, confident, and supported.

With appreciation,
